Burial Plans Revealed by Family of Nigerian Student Allegedly Deceased on Egypt Air Flight

The family of the late Nigerian student, Remilekun Meshioye, who fell ill on an Egypt Air flight and was declared deceased in a Cairo hospital, has announced the burial plans. Meshioye became unwell and passed away during her flight from Murtala Muhammad International Airport in Lagos to London.

About a month after her demise, Abdur-Rahman Balogun, the spokesman for the Nigerians in Diaspora Commission (NIDCOM), revealed that the deceased's body would be repatriated from Cairo to Lagos on Wednesday. Balogun stated, "According to the program coordinated by her sister, Lola Olaniyi-Alabi, the body will arrive in Lagos on Wednesday, October 18, from Cairo."

Following the refusal of Egypt Air management to take full responsibility for the incident, Olaniyi-Alabi explained that the family decided to bring Meshioye's body back home for burial. Despite several petitions, the airline has not offered condolences or acknowledged responsibility, prompting the family to take matters into their own hands.

The schedule includes a service of songs at Winners Chapel Ogba, Lagos, on Thursday, October 19, at 4 p.m., and the burial at Matori Cemetery Ladipo, near Oshodi Bus Terminus, Lagos, at 10 a.m. on Friday, October 20. Egypt Air management has also failed to respond to inquiries from NIDCOM regarding the incident.
