Bayelsa Chaos: PDP Council Chairman Assaulted by Thugs During Election Material Dispute
In Bayelsa State, chaos erupted in the lead-up to the off-cycle governorship election as alleged All Progressives Congress (APC) thugs, reportedly led by former council chairman Victor Isaiah, attacked Bara Daniel, the People's Democratic Party (PDP) chairman for Brass Local Government Area.
The incident occurred at Twon Brass jetty during the offloading of election materials by Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) officials. A dispute between APC and PDP supporters over the storage location of the materials escalated into violence, resulting in Daniel sustaining head injuries.
Isaiah, an APC chieftain, denied involvement in the assault, claiming he intervened to restore order amid Daniel's alleged intimidating behavior towards APC supporters.
Military personnel intervened to restore normalcy in the area, and Brass Local Government Area Chairman Alabo Hanson Karika strongly condemned the attack on the PDP chairman. Karika called on security personnel to stay vigilant and prevent further acts of violence.
