Anthony Joshua begins talks to fight Dubois Sept
Anthony Joshua has started talks to face fellow Briton Daniel Dubois in September. Joshua, 34, is scheduled to fight at Wembley Stadium on September 21 and was present to see Dubois defeat Filip Hrgovic last Saturday in Saudi Arabia. Dubois' promoter, Frank Warren, acknowledged that conversations were underway. Dubois, 26, defeated Hrgovic in their IBF 'interim' title battle, placing himself in great position to be named the next mandatory challenger to Oleksandr Usyk.Ukrainian Usyk has asked that his IBF belt not be stripped so that the undisputed title can stay on the line when he faces Tyson Fury in their rematch on December 21.
If the IBF decides to strip Usyk, Dubois may become world champion, making a match with Joshua a title bout. Joshua has won four consecutive fights and is a two-time unified world champion.
After losing the world titles in consecutive defeats to Usyk, Joshua has rebuilt himself admirably, with three stoppages in his four victories. Dubois, too, has been on a comeback path, winning twice since failing to dethrone Usyk in August 2023. The Londoner defeated Jarrell Miller and Hrgovic, the latter in a battle in which Dubois was the underdog.
