Anambra approves N4bn for roads, other projects
The Executive Council of Anambra State has sanctioned eleven contracts totaling approximately N4.443 billion for various projects across the state.
Dr. Law Mefor, the Commissioner for Information, stated that an amount of N87.168 million has also been approved as the annual premium for asset insurance policy coverage for the new Government House (Light House) in Awka, through an initial five-year long-term agreement.
According to the details of the contracts, N171.48 million is allocated for the modification and completion of the previously abandoned court building, as well as for the upgrading of related structures within the Court of Appeal Complex in Awka.
An additional N330.5 million is designated for the rehabilitation of deteriorated sections of Court Road and Obunagu Road within the Awka Metropolis.
The council also approved N443.4 million for supplying and installing fire-fighting equipment at the College of Nursing Sciences located in Umueze-Isuofia, Aguata local government area.
N297.9 million has been allocated for purchasing and installing additional furniture in the Government House Theatre and the Multi-Purpose Hall of Light House in Awka.
Furthermore, N346.87 million is designated for renovating the damaged sections of St. Thomas Aquinas Road, which connects GRA Awka, the Ministry of Lands, Ekwulobia Street, and Chief Abose Ejeagwu Lane.
Moreover, N85.3 million was approved for the supply and installation of a 32kva solar power system at the Country Club of Solution Fun City in Awka.
A substantial portion of the funds, amounting to N1.77 billion, has been allocated for the construction of the Ikenga-Isuofia-Igboukwu discharge channel.
The remaining contracts include the development of the Solution Park & Pay Garage at Ekwulobia, which encompasses an office building, a gatehouse, toilet facilities, a concrete floor, a gazebo with solar panel stands, park benches, and a perimeter fence at a cost of N90.45 million.
Additionally, N476.3 million has been approved for providing electricity to the Iyiora Anam Community and the Zion Ministry Psychiatric and Elderly Hospital in Aguleri.
Lastly, N240.25 million has been allocated for the installation of a three-way traffic light system at Igwe Orizu Junction and a four-way traffic light system at the Nnewi Roundabout on the Nnewi-Ozubulu Dual Carriageway in Nnewi, including pedestrian lights at both locations.
