An incident at MMIA leads to the evacuation of passengers and staff

On Wednesday morning, a portion of the Murtala Muhammed International Airport was enveloped in smoke, prompting the evacuation of airport staff, passengers, and other users. The incident occurred specifically at Terminal 1 of the airport.

Mr. Abdullahi Yakubu-Funtua, the Director of Public Affairs & Consumer Protection at FAAN, released a statement after the incident, explaining that the smoke originated from the basement of the terminal building.

"At approximately 7.50 a.m. this morning, a smoke incident was reported at Terminal 1 of the Murtala Muhammed International Airport, located in Ikeja, Lagos," he stated.

He further noted that firefighters responded swiftly to the situation and effectively brought it under control.

"Thanks to their rapid response and professional efforts, the situation has been successfully contained," he added.

"In keeping with our unwavering commitment to the safety and welfare of passengers, staff, and all airport users, the Terminal building was promptly evacuated due to the presence of smoke in some areas of the facility. We are pleased to report that the situation is currently under control."
