Akwa Ibom allocates N60bn to acquire CRJ900 aircrafts
Akwa Ibom State Governor Pastor Umo Eno has announced a significant financial investment of N60 billion in Ibom Air for the purchase of two new Bombardier CRJ900 aircraft.
This strategic investment is intended to support the airline's expansion efforts and improve regional air transportation.
Governor Eno announced the allocation during a meeting with the socio-cultural organization Mboho Mkparawa Ibibio, according to Vanguard.
He emphasized that the state's ability to finance this project independently, without the need for external loans, demonstrates his administration's effective and responsible use of public funds.
Governor Eno stated: "Our state must have an investment fund. We must deliberately and intentionally set aside funds for reinvestment and position our state among those that will continue to lead."
He also stated that relying on external loans would result in perpetual debt, benefiting creditors at the expense of the state's citizens.
Furthermore, Governor Eno stated that by the end of September 2024, N35 billion will be allocated to settle nearly half of the backlog in gratuity arrears for beneficiaries.
This payment is part of the state's efforts to meet long-term financial obligations.
Governor Eno praised the group for its efforts to foster unity among Akwa Ibom's diverse ethnic communities.
Akparawa James Edet, the organization's International President, expressed support for Governor Eno's re-election, citing his notable development agenda, ARISE.
