Aiyedatiwa vows Ondo’s collaboration with new South-West commission
The Governor of Ondo State, Lucky Aiyedatiwa, has indicated his administration's willingness to partner with the newly formed South-West Development Commission in order to promote infrastructural improvements, industrial growth, and youth empowerment throughout the state. The governor made this statement during a gathering on Saturday honoring the state’s representative on the commission, Jide Adewinle, at Ode Aye in the Okitipupa Local Government Area.
Governor Aiyedatiwa praised President Bola Tinubu for the establishment of the SWDC, expressing hope that the commission would effectively bridge developmental gaps in the South-West and unlock its significant economic potential. He referred to the initiative as an important measure for tackling regional inequalities and encouraging sustainable development.
“The formation of the South-West Development Commission is a commendable initiative by the Federal Government to address developmental inequalities, leverage regional strengths, and support sustainable progress. With effective leadership and partnership, the Commission will act as a powerful instrument for economic rejuvenation, infrastructural improvements, and social advancements in our area,” Aiyedatiwa noted.
The governor guaranteed that the state would closely collaborate with the SWDC and other federal entities to ensure that the residents of Ondo gain maximum benefits from ongoing and upcoming development initiatives.
“Our administration will maintain its cooperative efforts with the commission to boost regional integration, agricultural advancement, industrial development, and youth empowerment, which are all essential components of our development strategy,” he emphasized.
While congratulating the newly appointed representative, Adewinle, Governor Aiyedatiwa characterized his selection as a result of merit, diligent effort, and years of dedicated service to the community.
In his earlier comments, Mr. Adewinle stated that the SWDC was established to encourage regional growth by prioritizing education, infrastructure, welfare, and economic empowerment, calling it a platform that would reposition the South-West for long-term development.
He expressed deep appreciation to God, President Tinubu, and Governor Aiyedatiwa for the chance to serve, vowing to live up to the trust placed in him.
“What President Tinubu has achieved with the formation of this commission continues the vision of Chief Obafemi Awolowo for a thriving South-West, a region that flourishes on unity, creativity, and progress,” Adewinle remarked. He added, “The commission will revive that legacy by fostering growth in education, welfare, and infrastructure.”
The bill to create the SWDC was approved by the National Assembly and signed into law by President Tinubu several months ago, giving it the mandate to drive progress, enhance infrastructure, alleviate poverty, generate jobs, and support projects aimed at better integrating the six states within the South-West region.
