Air traveler apprehended for theft of N1 million during flight

Air Peace announced on Wednesday that an individual aboard one of its flights purportedly took N1 million from another passenger's bag, but was apprehended.

The airline's representative, Stanley Olisa, conveyed in a statement issued in Lagos that the incident occurred during the Abuja-Port Harcourt flight P47192 on July 27.

Recent times have seen multiple occurrences of theft onboard aircraft involving various airlines operating within the country, as reported by the News Agency of Nigeria.

Olisa detailed that the suspect managed to pilfer the sum from a brown envelope; however, he was promptly captured by the money's rightful owner, thanks to the involvement of the airline's staff.

He clarified that while in-flight, the individual seized a fellow passenger's laptop bag from the overhead compartment.

"Subsequently, he proceeded to take the brown envelope with the money, relocated the laptop bag to a different storage area, and relocated to an unoccupied seat at the rear of the aircraft," he explained.

Olisa further noted that despite the crew's announcement of a structured disembarkation order, the individual was among the initial passengers to leave the aircraft.

He informed that the individual was eventually apprehended, and the money, consisting of various currencies and denominations, was successfully recovered from his possession.

Olisa conveyed that the suspect was subsequently handed over to security personnel from the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria, who facilitated his transfer to the police for further inquiry.

He added that the police later confirmed the suspect's release on bail.
