Adamu Garba accused West African nations of laying a trap for ECOWAS to enter into war with Niger Re
In a statement shared on his official Twitter handle, Adamu Garba, an APC chieftain, claimed that the West, comprising the United States and France, has laid a trap for the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) to engage in a full-scale war in the region. This assertion was made on Sunday.
According to the APC chieftain, any military intervention in Niger could have disastrous consequences for Nigeria.
During an emergency meeting of the ECOWAS Authority of Heads of State and Government in Abuja on Sunday, it was decided to give General Abdourahamane Tchiani, the alleged mastermind of the supposed coup in Niger Republic, a seven-day ultimatum to relinquish power to Mohammed Bazoom.
Amidst this situation, Garba, an APC chieftain, urged President Bola Tinubu to stand firm and resist pressures from France and the U.S. to engage in any military action against Niger. He stressed the need for a non-kinetic and diplomatic approach to address the issue.
Garba expressed concern that the West, represented by France and the U.S., might be trying to set a trap to involve ECOWAS in a total war in the region. He warned that any military intervention in Niger could have severe repercussions, potentially leading to internal problems and undermining the progress made in building a democratic government.
Therefore, he emphasized the importance of avoiding military means and advocating for a diplomatic approach to handle the situation in Niger effectively.
"The reality we face is that West Africa has fallen short in safeguarding democracy. Our imperative now lies in learning from these past failures, ensuring that we do not repeat them, and refraining from jeopardizing our region's stability solely to serve the interests of Western Powers. We must prioritize our security concerns and seek sustainable solutions."
