APC knocks Atiku’s loyalist over poll shift claim

The All Progressives Congress slammed Timi Frank, a former Deputy National Publicity Secretary of the APC, on Sunday evening for claiming that its presidential candidate, Bola Tinubu, is plotting to postpone the 2023 general elections.

Frank, an avowed supporter of former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, had urged the President, Major General Muhammadu Buhari (retd.), and the Independent National Electoral Commission to resist political pressure to change the election date.

The politician also claimed that the ruling APC and its presidential candidate are plotting to use the fuel crisis and scarcity of new naira notes to force a rescheduling of the election.

Tinubu, he claims, has infiltrated and induced some media outlets and a number of Civil Society Organizations across the 36 states, including the Federal Capital Territory, to stage protests calling for the elections to be postponed, citing the lingering fuel crisis and Naira scarcity as justification.

Frank's claim comes in the wake of political pundits' fears that the elections will be postponed due to a variety of factors such as uncertainty, rising cases of attack on INEC facilities, and unrest at political rallies, among others.

Four weeks ago, the Federal Government, through Minister of Information and Culture Lai Mohammed, assured Nigerians that the 2023 general election would not be postponed or changed due to insecurity.

The FG assurance came in response to INEC's concerns at the height of the alleged attack on its facilities in some parts of the country by the Eastern Security Network, the militant arm of the outlawed Indigenous People of Biafra, bandits, and other forms of criminality.

In response to the claim, the APC's Publicity Director, Bala Ibrahim, stated that the report contained no truth.

While referring to him as a "prankster," Ibrahim stated that he would soon be invited by security agencies to elaborate on the phantom conspiracy to reschedule the 2023 elections.

"We don't want to be seen reacting to Timi 'Pranks,' or whatever his name is. People who make such an allegation or accusation should remember the popular Yoruba proverb, "When you point an accusing finger at someone, the remaining four are pointed at you." That is how you pre-empt society by planning some mischief behind closed doors and testing your prank.

"Whatever it is, I believe this is a government that is concerned about the people and works hard to avoid anything that will cause hardship to the people.

"That is why the government and the party launched reforms to make the electoral process more transparent, credible, free, and fair.

"The APC is confident of winning, provided the process is free, fair and credible. Why would you want to postpone your victory? It's illogical.

"If what Timi Frank is saying is not a prank, let him provide the security agencies with his evidence and see if action will not be taken.

"However, you are aware that when you are accused without evidence, you become the primary suspect in the allegation."
