According to a child rights advocate, pepstalk1, a Nigerian doctor residing in the United Kingdom has been stripped of custody of his 16-year-old son. The decision came after the doctor disciplined his son by using a belt to administer punishment.
The incident came to light when the son was caught watching an inappropriate video with friends while they were supposed to be studying together. His friends reported the matter to the police, who then intervened and witnessed the father using the belt to discipline his son. During the incident, the doctor was heard repeatedly questioning his son, "Is this how you want to become a doctor?"
Two months ago, she recounted that two friends of a Nigerian doctor's son visited the doctor's residence to spend the night and study together, preparing for their General Certificate of Secondary Education examination.
"At 3 am that night, the doctor stealthily entered his son's room and discovered them watching an inappropriate video. Fueled by anger, the father proceeded to discipline his son by using a belt, all while his friends witnessed the incident.
Alarmed, the two friends hurriedly left the room to contact the police, who arrived promptly and took the boy into their custody. Subsequently, the case was brought to court, where the friends testified that they overheard the father repeatedly saying, 'Is this how you want to become a doctor?' as he administered the punishment."
"The boy further disclosed that his father frequently subjected him to physical punishment to force him to study subjects he had no interest in, as his father strongly desired him to pursue medicine at the university.
Following the proceedings, the court made the decision to place the 16-year-old son of the doctor in the care of custody, thereby forbidding him from returning to his father's residence."
