20 Gunmen Attack Osun Palace, Kill Student Applicant, and Set Building Afire

Approximately 20 unidentified armed individuals carried out a violent attack on the palace of the Olokanla of Okanla community in Osun State's Irepodun Local Government Area on Sunday. During the attack, they tragically killed a young man seeking admission, Ibrahim Qudus, and subsequently set the palace ablaze.

According to a statement provided to PUNCH by the deceased's uncle, Jimoh Qadri, one of the assailants, identified as Naim, did not conceal his face during the incident.

Qadri explained that the attackers targeted him but found him absent at home. Instead, they proceeded to his father's house, which had previously served as the palace of the late Oba Jimoh Adigun, the Olokanla of Okanla. The motive behind the attack is believed to be related to a land dispute in the area. The assailants killed the young admission seeker, placed his body in a car, and set both the vehicle and the palace on fire.

Qadri stated, "The reason behind the attack is not known to me. But it may not be unconnected to the tussle over land in our area. The family is pleading with the security agencies to ensure the perpetrators of this crime are apprehended."

The Osun Police Command's spokesperson, Yemisi Opalola, confirmed the incident and reported that the Commissioner of Police, Kehinde Longe, had visited the crime scene. Additional law enforcement personnel have been deployed to the area to maintain security and prevent further disturbances. Opalola stated, "Someone was burnt with a car around Okanla, the area is between Ifon and Ilobu."
