Kelechi Iheanacho rules out returning to Man City saying he is enjoying his football at Leicester

SUPER Eagles striker Kelechi Iheanacho has ruled our returning to his former club Manchester City at the end of the season as a replacement for Argentine Sergio Aguero pointing out that he is happy at Leicester City.

Iheanacho, 24, was bought from Manchester City by Leicester City in the summer of 2017 for £25m but the purchase included a £50m buy-back clause. This season, Iheanacho has been a revelation, scoring 10 goals in his last seven games, including getting his first hat trick in a 5-0 victory over Sheffield United on March 14.

With Argentine striker Aguero set to leave at the end of the season, Manchester City fans want the club to return for Iheanacho. Manchester City, who have more or less won the English Premier League need to buy a big name striker as their fans do not see Gabriel Jesus as the long-term replacement for Aguero, although he has impressed at times this season.

However, Iheanacho who last weekend got Leicester City into the FA Cup final with a 1-0 victory over Southampton, has ruled out a return to Lancashire. His goal in that game, which was his 15th of season in 31 games, secured Leicester City’s first appearance in an FA Cup final in 50 years.

Iheanacho said: “I am not leaving Leicester at the moment but if ever I do, I will be careful not to get into any more queues. It wasn’t only Aguero at City, as there were five other strikers and it was a long queue behind Jovetic, Dzeko, Negredo and Bonny.

“Then I came to Leicester and there was another queue with Vardy, Okazaki, Slimani and the rest but I am still alive and here and there is hope every day. I am happy and loving my football.”

In an attempt to fend off any approach for Iheanacho, Leicester City have offered him a new deal that will keep him at the club until 2024. It is thought that he is on a Manchester City shortlist that includes Borussia Dortmund hitman Erling Haaland and Tottenham Hotspurs striker and England captain Harry Kane.
