France to report Argentina players to FIFA over racist chants

The French Football Federation intends to file a complaint with FIFA regarding alleged racist chants by members of Argentina's Copa America winning team.

The cries were heard during a live video shared on social media by Chelsea and Argentina midfielder Enzo Fernandez from the team bus following their Copa America victory over Colombia in Miami on Sunday.

Some players, including Fernandez, shout a chant from Argentina's 2022 World Cup victory against France, which targets France's star striker Kylian Mbappe and contains alleged homophobic comments.

A source close to the FFF told AFP on Tuesday that the French body intends to write to the Argentine football federation and send the situation to FIFA.

Two years ago, the FFF filed a complaint against racist comments on social media.

Africa Facts Zone via X, which also released an update, reported that Enzo Fernandez and the Argentine players had been accused of racism after mocking French players of African heritage following their Copa America victory.

They chanted, "They play for France, but their parents are from Angola." Their mother is from Cameroon and their father is from Nigeria. But their passport says French."

X users have now condemned Enzo Fernandez for his role in shouting the chants.

A user #CFCMod_ stated, "I can never support Enzo Fernandez again for publically making racist chants and smiling about it. There is no apology that will redeem "racism," and I hope everyone realizes this.

Another #WelBeast commented, "I just witnessed a video of Enzo Fernandez cheerleading to a racist song directed at Kylian Mbappe, and that's not even the worst part. The hardest thing is seeing a post from a Chelsea supporter begging him to apologize so that they can forgive him. "I do not want to speak."
