Foden temporarily leaves England Euros camp
Due to a "pressing family matter," Phil Foden has temporarily left England's Euro 2024 camp in Germany in order to return home, the English Football Association announced on Thursday.Foden, who led Manchester City to victory this season and was named Premier League player of the year, has started all three of England's matches at the tournament.
Whether the 24-year-old will be available for Sunday's Three Lions last-16 showdown is still up in the air.
Several English players, including Foden, have struggled to translate their success in the club game to the international arena during the Euros.
After starting their campaign with a 1-0 victory against Serbia, Gareth Southgate's team advanced to the knockout stages at Group C victors, but they fell short of the expectations placed on them as pre-tournament favorites in draws against Denmark and Slovenia.
But England has been dealt a fairer hand in the draw, since they will not play Germany, France, Spain, or Portugal until the championship game, if they make it that far.
According to the Daily Mail, Foden left camp to return home in time for the birth of his third child with Rebecca, his boyhood sweetheart.
When the team plays next in the round of sixteen on Sunday, he is anticipated to rejoin the group.
