Dortmund sign Guinean striker Guirassy
Borussia Dortmund announced on Thursday that they have signed Serhou Guirassy from Bundesliga rivals Stuttgart, capping their long chase of the Guinean striker."Borussia Dortmund have strengthened their attack with the signing of 28-year-old Serhou Guirassy from VfB Stuttgart," the club told X.
According to the club, Guirassy's initial medical at Dortmund revealed an injury that necessitated "further investigation" of the deal.
Following additional examinations, Dortmund determined that a knock sustained by Guirassy in an international game near the close of the season did "not need to be operated (on)," according to a club statement.
The French-born striker will embark on a solo recuperation regimen before joining his new team.
Dortmund signed Guirassy after paying the 18-million-euro ($20 million) release clause in his contract, according to German media.
Guirassy's contract with Dortmund will expire in June 2028, the club announced.
Guirassy enjoyed a breakout season with Stuttgart last season, scoring 28 goals in as many league games and leading the club to a surprise second-place finish and a Champions League berth in his debut season.
Stuttgart defeated Dortmund three times in all competitions in 2023-24, with Guirassy scoring in each match.
The striker is Dortmund's second signing from Stuttgart this transfer window, following German defender Waldemar Anton.
Guirassy joins Germany's Niclas Fuellkrug, Ivory Coast's Sebastien Haller, and adolescent Youssoufa Moukoko as Dortmund's four strikers.
Despite reaching the Champions League final last season and losing 2-0 to Real Madrid, Dortmund had a dismal domestic season.
Dortmund finished seventh last season, 27 points behind Xabi Alonso's unbeaten Bayer Leverkusen, despite losing the title on goal difference the previous season.
Dortmund lost stalwarts Marco Reus and Mats Hummels last season, as well as coach Edin Terzic.
Nuri Sahin, a former Dortmund player, has been hired as the club's manager.
