Anthony Joshua in line for undisputed title shot against Fury-Usyk winner
According to promoter Eddie Hearn, Anthony Joshua will face the winner of Tyson Fury's rematch with Oleksandr Usyk for the opportunity to become the undisputed heavyweight champion. In an interview with The Sun, Hearn said, "I expect the winner of the December fight to face Anthony Joshua if he wins in September." There has been no decision on the opponent, and there are three or four options. But, yes, that is the absolute plan."
Joshua, who last fought in March and brutally knocked out Francis Ngannou in Saudi Arabia, is likely to face Daniel Dubois in September at Wembley Stadium. Dubois just won the IBF 'interim' belt by defeating Filip Hrgovic.
“The first priority is to regain the world heavyweight title and obviously undisputed’s always been the dream. So I think we’re two fights away from becoming undisputed. But, we’ve got to win them,” Hearn added.
Usyk overcame Fury in their first fight last month by a split decision, becoming the first boxer to unify the heavyweight championship since Lennox Lewis in 1999. The Ukrainian's victory earned him the WBC title from Fury, adding to his WBA (Super), WBO, IBF, and IBO titles.
According to Dailymail, promoter Frank Warren stated that talks are underway for a prospective Joshua-Dubois fight, claiming, "Daniel Dubois proved all his naysayers wrong and won the IBF 'interim' belt. We intend to have him fighting AJ in the autumn. He performed well. We'd love it to be in the UK; they're both British, and it'd be a fantastic battle to stage at Wembley."
If Joshua overcomes Dubois, he will be in line to face either Fury or Usyk in a bid to become the undisputed heavyweight champion, even if the Gypsy King gains revenge on the Ukrainian to set up a potential trilogy.
