NECA hails Tinubu’s commitment to retirees’ welfare

The Nigeria Employers’ Consultative Association has expressed appreciation to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for his ongoing dedication to the well-being of retirees and pensioners across the country.

In a statement, NECA’s Director-General, Adewale-Smatt Oyerinde, noted that the president’s continuous attention to pension issues signifies a profound recognition of the efforts of workers who dedicated their active years to the nation’s economic development.

He characterized Tinubu’s position as “a powerful indication of his administration’s commitment to social welfare, economic dignity in retirement, and the enduring viability of our pension system.”

Oyerinde emphasized that a vital step in maintaining this commitment is the timely reestablishment of the National Pension Commission’s governing board, in accordance with the Pension Reform Act.

He cautioned that the ongoing lack of a fully operational board hinders effective oversight, policy guidance, and corporate governance within PenCom.

He remarked, “The pension sector relies on trust, transparency, and robust governance.

“Timely reconstitution of PenCom’s governing body will protect these principles, uphold legal standards, and enhance public trust in the overall pension framework.”

NECA reiterated its enduring dedication to the advancement and improvement of Nigeria’s pension sector, vowing to continue collaborating with the government and other essential stakeholders to fortify pension management.

Oyerinde stated that this dedication encompasses advocating for policies that protect pension assets, broaden coverage, and improve the welfare of retirees in both formal and informal sectors.

“As the representative body for organized business in Nigeria, NECA will persist in being a strong proponent for a sustainable pension system that benefits everyone. A robust pension industry is not solely about retirement benefits—it encompasses economic stability, social unity, and fairness across generations,” the statement concluded.
