NDLEA seizes 653kg of cannabis in raids across Lagos, Abuja
The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has expressed concerns over the escalating rate of drug abuse in Abia.Recently, the Agency confiscated 653 kilograms of Colorado and Loud, which are potent varieties of cannabis sativa, during operations in Lagos and Abuja.
Mr. Femi Babafemi, the Director of Media and Advocacy at NDLEA, communicated this information in a press release on Sunday from Abuja.
According to Babafemi's breakdown, during a stop-and-search procedure on Thursday, September 4, NDLEA agents apprehended a delivery rider in the Gwarimpa area of the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja, while he was transporting 3.1 kilograms of Colorado, a synthetic variant of cannabis.
In Lagos, NDLEA agents conducted an operation based on reliable intelligence that led to the capture of two individuals on Monday, September 1, as they were loading four distribution trucks at their residence on 28 Ola Street, Ijesha, Surulere.
He reported that the items seized from them included 9 kilograms of Canadian Loud, 5 kilograms of Colorado, and 1,101 compressed blocks of Ghana Loud, collectively weighing 611 kilograms, which raised the overall total of seizures to 625 kilograms.
Additionally, in a separate operation in Lagos on Friday, September 5, a couple was arrested with 24.4 kilograms of skunk recovered from their residence in Ajegunle.
Babafemi noted that another suspect, a 45-year-old male, was taken into custody with 53.400 kilograms of skunk hidden in two cartons located in the trunk of his Toyota Avensis car, with plate number ABC 338 SS, in Kogi.
He also mentioned that a 23-year-old was detained in a follow-up operation in Auchi, Edo, on Friday, September 5, linked to the previous seizure of 233 kilograms of skunk in Kakau, Kaduna State.
In another related operation, NDLEA agents apprehended a suspect on Wednesday, September 3, at 61 Bida Road, Onitsha, Anambra, where they recovered 11,000 tramadol pills.
Moreover, operatives conducting patrols along the Minna-Bida road in Niger State on Tuesday, September 2, stopped a white Toyota Hilux, resulting in the driver's arrest and the recovery of 30 bags of skunk totaling 342 kilograms.
