JAMB reports that 260,000 candidates are set to participate in the 2024 Mock-UTME

Over 260,000 candidates participated in this year's Mock Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination on Thursday across 793 Computer-Based Test centers nationwide, according to the Registrar of JAMB, Professor Ishaq Oloyede. After overseeing several centers in Abuja, Oloyede expressed satisfaction with the smooth conduct of the exercise.

He highlighted that the purpose of the exam was to assess preparedness for the main UTME, scheduled to commence on Friday, 19th April 2024. Additionally, he mentioned the successful conduct of a recruitment examination for the Nigerian Police on Wednesday, noting that the few incidents recorded during the Mock UTME in about four centers would be addressed.

We have been conducting mock exams consistently; just yesterday, we administered a recruitment test for the Police Service Commission nationwide, serving as a prelude to today's mock UTME. This exercise spanned 411 centers across the country, and today, we are conducting our own mock in 793 centers nationwide.

Currently, we've encountered minor issues in about three or four locations, but we are actively resolving them. Overall, it's been positive, and even for those three centers facing challenges, we are finding ways to accommodate them, ensuring a smooth process. The reports indicate that everything is progressing well," stated the JAMB boss.

He further disclosed that out of the 1.98 million candidates registered for the main 2024 UTME, over 260,000 participated in the mock examination.

More than 260,000 candidates are participating in the mock exam, but for the actual examination, we have 1.98 million candidates. We have limited the number of participants in the mock exam to avoid transforming it into another substantial examination. The purpose of the mock exam is simply to evaluate the functionality of the system.

Regarding the preparedness for the main UTME, Oloyede affirmed that JAMB is fully equipped to ensure the seamless conduct of the exam. He disclosed the implementation of new mechanisms to further strengthen the exam system.

"We are well-prepared for the exam, and today holds particular significance for us. This year, we initiated internal reforms that raised concerns about feasibility, but we can confidently declare that we have successfully achieved our goals. What we envisioned six or seven years ago has become a reality today," he stated.

Oloyede also mentioned that the results of the Mock UTME would be released either on Thursday evening or Friday.

Previously, Damilola Bamiro, the Information and Communications Technology consultant at JAMB, stated that the exam body maintains complete communication with all participating centers through the JAMB Situation Room. This Situation Room facilitates real-time interaction between the centers and JAMB, enabling swift resolution of any issues that may arise during the exam.

As initially stated, the 2024 UTME is scheduled to begin on April 19, 2024, and conclude on April 29, 2024.
