Ebonyi increases workers’ minimum wage to N90,000
The Ebonyi State Government has declared an increase in the minimum wage for civil servants from N70,000 to N90,000.On Thursday, Chief Ikeuwa Omebe, the Commissioner for Information and Orientation, shared this information while updating reporters on the results of the state Executive Council meeting.
Omebe mentioned that the wage increase is intended to improve the welfare of workers and that it is effective immediately for all levels of the workforce.
He emphasized, “We want to make it clear that this is not a political announcement, as this administration prioritizes the welfare of its workers. The government has settled the pensions and gratuities of state retirees from its establishment in 1996 up to the present. The verification process for retirees in Local Government Areas has begun, and payments will follow once it is complete.”
He also noted that if the government does not engage in politics with such significant financial responsibilities, it certainly would not do so with an additional N20,000 for workers.
Omebe remarked, “The governor is a leader and a developer of both human resources and infrastructure. The government is based on the biblical principle of addressing the people's specific needs.”
The commissioner also indicated that the Executive Council had discussed the implementation of an eight-year tenure policy for directors, which includes the immediate retirement of anyone who has served in that capacity for the designated period.
He explained, “The Executive Council thoroughly reviewed the matter and has approved its implementation for the relevant permanent secretaries and directors.”
