Delta police urge women to report abusive husbands

The Delta State Police Command has asked victims of domestic violence, particularly married women, to report the assault to the local police station.

SP Bright Edafe, the command's spokesperson, offered the guidance in an X.com article on Wednesday.

Edafe said, "You are married to a man in Asaba who beats you every day; you have family and friends; and there are over six police stations in Asaba." You declined to report him, preferring to come on X and plead for the cops to come and rescue.

"The police replied, 'Please go and report at the nearest police station;' your pals come and say, 'This is Nigeria'. What does Nigeria have to do with you failing to report to the police station?"

Edafe emphasized that victims should be proactive.

"Women should take the bull by the horn," he told me.

"Report an abusive husband and quit an abusive marriage. Marriage is not forced and certainly not required," he stated.

NigerianWatch reported in March that the Delta State Government has convicted over 22 males for abusing women in the state.
