I am perplexed as to why Trump’s deal with the Taliban did not look something like this

Ayo Akinfe

[1] US troops will pull out of Afghanistan over a five year period

[2] The Taliban will convert itself from a guerrilla army into a political party and will be allowed to participate in general elections in Afghanistan

[3] All Taliban fighters will hand their weapons in at United Nations disarmament centres

[4] There will be a blanket amnesty for all Taliban fighters

[5] All Taliban leaders held abroad will be released immediately

[6] Women will be given equal rights as men in Afghanistan in every sphere of life

[7] All Taliban fighters will be integrated into the Afghan Army. To prevent it being used to fight political opponents, all political parties with a presence in parliament must be consulted before the army is deployed

[8] The Taliban will commit itself to acquiring power through the ballot box and will never attempt to seize power by force again

[9] Like all other parties in Afghanistan, the Taliban will receive funding from the United Nations to enable it establish itself across Afghanistan

[10] Brutal punishments like beheadings and the amputation of limbs will from henceforth be outlawed across Afghanistan
