Nigeria has no Turkish ambassador yet, says Presidency

The President has made it clear that the Republic of Turkey has not yet received an ambassador.

President Bola Tinubu has only confirmed three ambassadors-designate thus far, according to a statement released on Friday by Bayo Onanuga, Special Advisor to the President on Information and Strategy.

The three ambassadors-designate are assigned to France, the United States, and the United Kingdom.

These include Amin Dalhatu, a former ambassador to South Korea, as high commissioner-designate to the United Kingdom, Colonel Lateef Are as ambassador-designate to the United States, and Ayodele Oke as ambassador-designate to France.

Out of the 68 ambassadors that the Senate confirmed in December of last year, Onanuga pointed out that the three were approved.

"President Tinubu confirmed the postings of Colonel Lateef Are as the ambassador-designate to the United States of America and Ambassador Ayodele Oke as the ambassador-designate to France," he said.

The appointment of Ambassador Amin Dalhatu, a former ambassador to South Korea, as the high commissioner-designate to the United Kingdom has also been confirmed by the President.

“In a memo to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, President Tinubu urged the ministry to notify the governments of the three countries about the ambassadors-designate, in accordance with diplomatic procedures.”

However, Onanuga had earlier announced that the President approved four ambassadors-designate, including Usman Isa Dakingari Suleiman.

He had stated that Suleiman, a former governor of Kebbi, “is the ambassador-designate to Turkey, where the President is scheduled to begin a state visit next week.”
