A total of 3,000 patients have undergone cost-free eye surgeries in Zamfara

The coordinator of the outreach explained that this act of goodwill is intended to alleviate the financial strain of medical services for individuals at the grassroots level.

Senator Sahabi Ya'u (APC-Zamfara) has provided funding for the surgical procedures and medical care of 3,000 individuals suffering from eye conditions at no cost to them.

The legislator had recently initiated a complimentary healthcare program aimed at assisting more than 5,000 individuals in need.

Dr. Kamal Umar, who leads the medical team for this initiative, revealed this during a press briefing on Monday at the General Hospital Kaura-Namoda, located in the Kaura-Namoda Local Government Area where the program is being held.

Umar further explained that out of the beneficiaries, 3,000 eye patients, primarily comprising vulnerable individuals, women, and children, received essential medical treatments, underwent surgical procedures, and were provided with necessary medications.

"The beneficiaries were selected from Kaura-Namoda, Birnin-Magaji, Shinkafi, and Zurmi LGAs.

"We have provided eyeglasses, covered transportation costs, and ensured meals for the treated patients from these four LGAs.

"In some instances where we encountered complex medical cases during the outreach, we will refer these patients to appropriate tertiary health institutions," Umar explained.

The outreach coordinator, Alhaji Abba Isah, highlighted that the primary objective of this initiative was to provide support to vulnerable individuals facing various health challenges, particularly those unable to bear the expenses associated with medical care. Abba emphasized that this gesture aimed to alleviate the financial burden of healthcare for people in the grassroots communities.

"This initiative is part of the legislator's response to the ongoing economic challenges arising from the removal of fuel subsidies," he concluded.

"Additionally, other recipients of the outreach received services such as hernia surgery, dental care, as well as hypertension and diabetes treatments," he elaborated.
