Fulani herdsmen carry out reprisal attack for Igboho’s visit killing six in Ogun State

HEAVILY-armed Fulani herdsmen are reported to have carried out a bloody raid on the Owode Ketu community in Ogun State early this morning in response to the recent actions of Yoruba rights campaigner Sunday Adeyemo popularly known as Igboho.

Over the last few weeks, tension has been high across the southwest geo-political zone after herdsmen killed diasporan farmer Dr Fatai Aborode in Ibarapa North Local Government Area of Oyo State. His death lead to Mr Adeyemo issuing a seven quit notice to the herdsmen to leave the area, after which they were forcefully evicted.

Following the success of the Ibarapa eviction, numerous communities across the southwest have solicited the help of Mr Adeyemo in removing the herdsmen within their midst. Fulani herdsmen are renown for carrying out very violent crimes across Nigeria, including kidnapping, armed robbery, rape and banditry.

On Ogun State, Mr Adeyemo visited the Igua community in Yewa North Local Government Area and helped evict the Fulani herdsmen. It now appears that the herdsmen have retaliated by invading Owode Ketu in the early hours of this morning.

Confirming the incident, Hon Wahab Haruna Abiodun, the member of the Ogun State House of Assembly member representing the Ketu constituency,  said: “It is so sad that Ketu is bathing in the blood of constituents. Fulani herders attacked Owode Ketu in Eggua Ward and killed no fewer than six people, leaving scores seriously injured.”

He added that two other farmers, after being matcheted, were thrown into Yewa River along Eggua road from the bridge. Hon Abiodun called on Governor Dapo Abiodun to instruct the Ogun State police commissioner and other security agents to move swiftly to the area so that the issue will not escalate further.

“This was a reprisal attack by herdsmen as they came in hundreds following the visitation of Sunday Igboho to the area. This is the time we need the Amotekun Corps to come out and support the Nigeria Police Force,” Hon Abiodun added.

About four days ago, a farmer identified as Dele Olowoniyi, was killed by Fulani herdsmen in the Yewa axis of Ogun State. he was murdered in Oha village, near Imeko at around 1.30am on Sunday morning.
