Contrary to rumors in some quarters, Senator Obinna Ogba of Ebonyi Central Senatorial Zone has stated that he has no plans to defect from the Peoples Democratic Party.
Ogba ran for the PDP governorship ticket but lost to Dr. Ifeanyi Chukwuma Odii after the Supreme Court ruled on October 21, 2022, recognizing the latter as the party’s duly elected governorship candidate.
“The outcome of the judgment may not be what we wanted or what we worked hard for, and I am sorry that we did not win this legal tussle for the values we share and the vision we had for Ebonyi State and Ebonyians,” he told journalists on Saturday in Abakaliki.
The PDP chieftain, on the other hand, expressed satisfaction and gratitude to God Almighty for the once-in-a-lifetime opportunity.
He also thanked God that no lives were lost during the political squabble.
“I will be eternally grateful to God Almighty that the recently concluded political differences laced with legal wrangling took our time but not our lives.”
“It dragged our patience and at times hung our emotions to the level of tension,” he said, “but it never resulted in flexing of muscles in a show of brutality, let alone the death of a single soul.”
“I was first a human being before venturing into politics, and I am a believer in politics of greater good for a greater number of our people, and that is what the focus in the days ahead will be,” Ogba said of his political stance ahead of the 2023 general elections. The Ebonyi people are entitled to peace, prosperity, and happiness.
“The human plan in every contest is always to win, but nature has a way of letting us win some and lose some most of the time for a better alternative.”
Ogba also stated that he had forgiven “those who willingly betrayed our just cause in any way or manner.”
According to him, lessons have been learned, more knowledge has been acquired, and who knows what God has purposefully driven away from us to our own disbelief, and what he has in abundance for us ahead of us.
“I am eternally grateful for the support freely given to me by my supporters,” he added. “I thank the Party Executives from National, Zonal, State, and Local Government Areas, and Ward Executives who believed in our Vision and Brand.” I thank various Christian leaders for holding the fort and ensuring that we remained strong in Faith during the struggle. I’m not going to take the Peoples Democratic Party’s platform for granted.
“Overall, I hold the Nigerian judiciary in high regard.” I agree with My Lord Justice Oputa when he says, “We are final not because we are infallible; we are infallible because we are final.”
“From the bottom of my heart, I know that the strides and efforts of my supporters will be the best and most vividly remembered in my political memory and history.” “I appreciate your patience, prayers, good intentions, and well-thought-out plans.”
