The Sudden Fame Took a Toll on My Mental Health," Reveals Omah Lay
Renowned Nigerian artist, Stanley Omah Didia, widely recognized as Omah Lay, has disclosed the adverse impact of his sudden fame on his mental well-being.
During the most recent episode of the Afrobeats Podcast, the 'Soso Crooner' shared that he initially grappled with fame but eventually managed to find his equilibrium.
He expressed, "Initially, it was quite a leap, and I faced some challenges. It had a negative impact on my mental well-being because I was still adapting to this new reality. However, as time passed, I grew more comfortable and understood that I'm on my own journey, and I should progress at my own pace."
Omah Lay continued, "There was certainly a lot of pressure. Going from working on a modest laptop and spending most of your time in the studio to becoming a global superstar can be overwhelming. It's like they suddenly transported you from the starting point of music production to where I am now (points to the studio equipment), and you feel lost."
"But as I learned and realized this, I became stronger and began to relish my life more," he concluded.
He also expressed his willingness to openly discuss his vulnerabilities with the public, stating, "If I can convey my vulnerabilities through my music, then I have no reservations about discussing them openly. My music is a reflection of my real-life experiences, and I'm aware that people all over the world are listening to it."
Omah Lay had previously shared his struggles with suicidal thoughts and depression, as he candidly revealed in a past statement.
