Emirates Airline plans to restart its flights to Nigeria in June, announced Keyamo
Festus Keyamo, the Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, revealed that Emirates Airlines is set to recommence operations in Nigeria by June 2024. Keyamo made this announcement during an appearance on Arise Television on Monday, highlighting President Bola Tinubu's role in resolving diplomatic tensions between the nations. He further mentioned that both governments have addressed outstanding issues, paving the way for the airline to announce its inaugural flight date soon.
Keyamo mentioned that the UAE airline has sent a letter confirming its preparedness to resume flight operations in Nigeria.
"I've just received a letter from Emirates indicating their readiness to resume flights. They have completed all necessary procedures and are prepared to return. They will announce the specific date, as restarting a route requires arranging an aircraft for that purpose," he stated.
He mentioned that the airline was finalizing the remaining details and would soon announce the precise date for resuming flights.
Keyamo also revealed, "I have just received a letter from Emirates expressing gratitude for our efforts. President Bola Tinubu played a pivotal role in resolving the matter, making my job easier. He conducted a diplomatic shuttle, addressing all issues. Hence, I can confirm that the last announcement wasn't hasty or fake news. They will announce their return date soon. We have received confirmation that all issues are resolved, and they are ready to resume. This might happen before June."
Emirates Airline suspended its flights to Nigeria in October 2022 due to challenges repatriating funds held in the country, amounting to $85 billion.
