Brentford reach agreement with Midtjylland to sign Frank Onyeka in the summer if they get promoted

ENGLISH Championship side Brentford have entered into a gentleman’s agreement with Danish side FC Midtjylland to sign Nigerian midfielder Frank Onyeka in the summer if they win promotion to the Premier League.

Onyeka, 23, a promising anchorman tipped to rise to the very top, joined Midtjylland in January 2016 and made his Super Eagles debut in October last year in a friendly game against Algeria. Brentford, who are chasing promotion to the English Premier League, have entered into a gentleman’s agreement with Midtjylland, the Danish champions that will allow Onyeka to join them at the end of the season.

Midtjylland have rejected offers for the midfielder, retaining Onyeka for the 2020/21 season due to their participation in this season’s Champions League. If he joins Brentford in the summer, Midtjylland are in line to pocket a €13.4m transfer fee.

However, other European clubs including Stuttgart are interested in signing Onyeka but his dream is to play in the Premier League, putting Brentford in pole position for his services. Brentford are currently third in the English Championship with 44 points but have played a game less than Swansea City who occupy the last automatic promotion berth.

Since his arrival at Midtjylland from partner club FC Ebedei, Onyeka has scored 15 goals in 102 first team appearances. He is regarded as a good box-to-box midfielder who acts as a good shield in front of the defence.
