Arsenal leftback Busayo Saka reveals that he has been to Nigeria before as a youngster

ARSENAL leftback Busayo Saka is likely to become the next subject of a tug-of-war between England and Nigeria after he recently indicated that he fancies the idea of playing for the Super Eagles after revealing that he used to visit Nigeria as a kid.

Saka, 18, who came through the youth ranks with the Hale End academy, has forced his way into the Arsenal team this season. Seen as a potential top class player, the youngster has already featured for England at the U16, U17, U17 and U18 levels, so should Nigeria want to acquire his services, the country will need to make a formal switch application through Fifa.

At the 2018 European U17 Championship for instance, Saka started all five matches for England as the team reached the semi-finals. Although he is yet to make a final decision on his senior international career, Saka recently revealed that he has previously been to Nigeria when he was much younger, so will not experience a culture shock if he suits up for the Super Eagles.

Speaking to Arsenal’s official website, Saka said : “I was lucky enough to travel a lot when I was younger as every year, my mum and dad would take us away. We went to Nigeria of course, where my mum and dad are both from, we went to Dubai, and to America a few times because my cousins live there.

As of now, Saka is a member of the England U19 team, for whom he has scored four goals in 10 games, while providing three assists. He has made 17 league appearances for Arsenal this season, three in the FA Cup and two in the league cup, with one goal to his credit.
