Udom Emmanuel, Governor of Akwa Ibom State, has presented a brand new Toyota Prado SUV to the new Commissioner of Police, Olatoye Durosinmi, as well as ten Hilux operational vehicles to the state command to improve its operations.
Emmanuel made the announcement on Wednesday while receiving the new state police chief in his office at Government House in Uyo.
The governor, who said the donation brings the number of operational vehicles donated by his administration to 45, promised the command that he would meet his 100-vehicle target before leaving the state next year.
He praised the CP for his interest in marine security, noting that the recent donation of 18 gunboats with outboard engines to the state police command’s marine unit was intended to improve security on the state’s waterways.
While commending the CP for his efforts to ensure marine security, Emmanuel promised that his administration will continue to work with the police to maintain overall peace and protect lives and property in the state.
“I’d like to thank you for your particular interest in marine security. I’m aware of the tools you require; we’ve done our best to supply the gun-boats and new engines, and in the last two weeks we’ve acquired a lot; we bought five earlier, and you said they weren’t enough, so we added thirteen more, making it eighteen gun-boats in these few months; we’ll continue to improve on that, and I’m sure you’ve noticed that we’ve improved a lot on communication equipment. “I believe that if it is properly deplored, it will greatly benefit us,” the governor said.
He welcomed the state’s 31st Commissioner of Police and praised his aesthetic value, quick adaptation to the state’s security challenges, and collaboration with sister agencies during his brief five-week stay in the state.
“I admire your passion, commitment, and promise to make Akwa Ibom State Command the most enviable in the country.” Let me thank you for taking action even before this official reception.
“Your cooperation with the Army, SSS, Civil Defense, and other Military, Paramilitary, and other security agencies is highly commendable because we are all working toward the same goal of saving society for all.”
“Thank you for your cooperation, and I can assure you that it is our primary responsibility and social call as a State Government to secure lives and property, and we will do so with all seriousness, commitment, and passion to deliver, and once the passion is right, nothing is impossible,” Governor Emmanuel said.
Earlier, Durosinmi expressed gratitude for the warm welcome he received in the state, as well as the state government’s support, which he described as commendable.
The new CP, on the other hand, warned that he would not tolerate anti-social elements and promised to reposition the state command for effective policing.
“It is simple for them to repent and become good Akwa Ibom State citizens, or they can leave the command to us.” We will not let a tiny minority have their way while disrupting the state’s peace. We’ll catch them before they catch our innocent people.”
