Pastor Enoch Adeboye, General Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God, and Lagos State Governor Mr Babajide Sanwo-Olu have both urged Nigerians to work for and pray for peace in the country.
While admitting that the country is at war, Adeboye stated that what kings and soldiers cannot do, God will do for the country.
The cleric and the governor spoke on Sunday at the RCCG’s headquarters in Ebute-Metta, Lagos, during an October thanksgiving service and special prayer session for all state governors and their deputies.
The governor, along with his wife, Dr Ibijoke Sanwo-Olu, and other dignitaries, including the representatives of Governors Gboyega Oyetola (Osun State) and Dapo Abiodun (Ogun State), attended the program (Ogun State).
Adeboye lamented the country’s situation in his sermon but assured citizens that God will heal the country.
“In the olden days, unless you are one of the special people, they don’t allow the king’s dress to touch you,” he explained, “but now kidnappers can go to the palace to kidnap the king.” No one should mislead you; we are at war. What kings and soldiers cannot accomplish, the almighty God will.
“God will heal the land and intervene in various issues affecting the country negatively, and I want to encourage the people to prepare to fast and pray for the country very soon.” We’ve spent a lot of time criticizing the rulers, so please pray for them. You should say a prayer for them. I’m praying for them, and I hope you’ll join me.”
In his speech, Sanwo-Olu praised Adeboye for encouraging citizens to pray for their leaders and play their roles in making the country better.
“We need perfect peace in our country,” he said, adding that “perfect peace requires peace from individuals.” We, the citizens, are the ones who shape the country. It is not just about a fictitious country; it is the people on the ground who truly define a country.
Adeboye, who was in the military, recounted his near-air mishap twice on his way to London.
He explained that on the first trip, the aircraft’s tyre failed to come out for more than 45 minutes and that this was a deliberate attempt by God to keep his attention for communication.
Adeboye went on to say that during his second near-death experience, there was an announcement about expected stormy weather in London, which God later told him was diverted because of him.
