10 things the African Union could have done in the wake of the Floyd George murder

Ayo Akinfe

(1) Get all African leaders to gather in Abuja and hold a solidarity march as happened in Paris after the 2015 terrorist attack
(2) Launch a Back to Africa resettlement programme under which skilled diasporans are encouraged to come and develop African economies
(3) Offer automatic citizenship to black Americans who want to relocate
(4) Press international development agencies to fund the revival of poor black American communities
(5) Grant black Americans observer status at AU meetings
(6) Host another Festac in 2022
(7) Insist that at least 15% of all global capital investment comes to Africa as it is in proportion with our population
(8) Encourage the African diaspora communities in the West to form cooperative societies that can operate as venture partners
(9) Set 2025 as a date from which Africa will stop exporting primary commodities to which no value has been added
(10) Set 2030 as a target date for which Africa must account for at least 15% of world trade. At the moment, it is less than 3%, which is a recipe for perpetual poverty
