Farmhouse Fire: Youth rampage in Plateau
On Tuesday morning, enraged youths set ablaze the residence of a farmer in the Angwa Rukuba-Etoo Baba community, located in the Jos area of Plateau State. Additionally, they raided his poultry farm, looting birds before setting the entire farm ablaze. According to resident Mrs. Janet Haruna, the youths' actions were purportedly in response to the alleged killing of a security guard working for the farmer. Haruna pleaded for assistance for their community, situated in the Jos North Local Government Area.
The fire has consumed the farmer's house, along with the cars parked in the compound, and is now spreading to a neighboring building.
"According to reports, the youths were enraged due to the alleged killing of a security guard accused of egg theft at the farmer's poultry farm.
"The incident involved the farmer's son, who reportedly suspected the guard of theft. Upon catching the guard in the act, a confrontation ensued, resulting in the guard's collapse and subsequent death. The youths then retaliated by setting the family house ablaze. The deceased guard's body has been removed to the hospital for further examination."
The state fire service personnel swiftly responded to the community to contain the fire and prevent its spread to neighboring areas. Additionally, security forces were dispatched to maintain peace and prevent any escalation of unrest.
