Deceased Abuja undergraduate located, police launch investigation

Blessing Karami, an undergraduate student at the National Open University of Nigeria in Abuja, who was reported missing on September 11, has been discovered deceased in the woods within the Karimo area of the Federal Capital Territory.

Meanwhile, the police have announced their commitment to conducting a comprehensive and impartial investigation into the circumstances surrounding Miss Karami's untimely demise.

The young woman had been reported missing after she allegedly left her workplace in the Garki area of Abuja before her usual closing time on September 11, 2023.

Our correspondent can confirm that Aminu, identified as the deceased's boyfriend, has been apprehended by the Durumi Divisional Police Headquarters in Abuja for questioning regarding her disappearance.

The elder sibling of the deceased, Genesis Karami, reported to the police that he received an unusual phone call providing information about his sister's lifeless body on Tuesday. However, this lead turned out to be deceptive.

"The caller claimed to have spotted a female body in Idu, so we requested a description of what she was wearing. Remarkably, he accurately described the attire my sister had on the day she went missing," Mr. Karami informed the police at the Durumi Divisional Police Headquarters on Wednesday.

Mr. Karami also recounted to journalists that, as he was unable to reach the Durumi DPO, he had to visit the police station in Karmo. Upon arrival with a group of police officers, the caller continuously changed his location, making it difficult to locate him. Eventually, they grew weary and departed.

He later confirmed that his sister had indeed passed away, and her remains were discovered.

"We came across her decomposed body in the nearby woods here in Karmo. It's not something we can transport easily, so we'll need to coordinate with environmental authorities to assist us in the removal. It's not feasible for us to transport it, so we'll have to inter her here. Judging by the state of decomposition, it appears she had been deceased for several days," Mr. Karami disclosed.

In response to these developments on Thursday, the Federal Capital Territory Police Command's Public Relations Officer, SP Josephine Adeh, stated that the police were committed to unraveling both the immediate and underlying factors behind Miss Karami's demise.

Adeh stated, "The lifeless body of Blessing Karami, a 26-year-old woman who had been missing since September 11, 2023, was tragically found in a wooded area in Karimo. Her disappearance was officially reported to authorities on September 14, 2023.

"We wish to inform the public that, at this time, our primary objective, under the guidance of the Commissioner of Police, FCT, Haruna Garba, is to conduct a comprehensive and impartial investigation into the circumstances surrounding the untimely demise of Blessing Karami Moses. Our dedication to this case remains steadfast, and we are resolved to uncover both the immediate and underlying factors contributing to this tragic incident.

"While we collaborate closely with the Abuja Environmental Protection Board (AEPB) to ensure the respectful retrieval of the decomposed remains, recognizing the sensitive nature of this task, we will provide ongoing updates to the public as our investigation progresses. Our thoughts are with the family and loved ones of Blessing Karami Moses during this challenging period."
