Daring Operation: Delta Police Rescue 3-Year-Old Boy, Dismantle Child Trafficking Syndicate

The Delta State Police Command thwarts a six-member suspected child trafficking syndicate, resulting in the successful rescue of a three-year-old boy.

On June 13, 2023, at approximately 08:30 hours, Aisha Yusuf from the Abraka community in Asaba reported to the police station that her three-year-old son, Abubakar Atiku, had been abducted by a 35-year-old man named Mohammed Isah.

In response to the complaint, the Commissioner of Police, CP Wale Abass, issued a direct order to the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) of 'C' Division Asaba, CSP Apu Torukeregha, to apprehend the suspect and rescue the kidnapped child.

Following this instruction, the DPO led a team of officers from the Division's Anti-crime patrol unit in an intensive search for the missing child.

Based on a tip-off, the team conducted an operation at Abraka market in Oshimili-South LGA, leading to the arrest of the primary suspect, Mohammed Isah.

During the interrogation, the suspect admitted to the crime and provided information that led to the arrest of three other individuals involved in the child abduction syndicate. These individuals were identified as Ibrahim Sani (23), Kabiru Ibrahim (52), and Abubakar Mohammed, a 32-year-old disabled person.

Initial investigations have uncovered that the malevolent group is part of a child trafficking syndicate engaged in the heinous act of kidnapping children and selling them for significant financial gains.

The suspects guided the police to a hotel in Onitsha, Anambra State, where they apprehended a 38-year-old man named Suleiman Mohammed. The missing child was discovered under his custody.

The suspect captured in Anambra, like the others, has confessed to the police that he was awaiting the buyer for the abducted child. They had agreed to sell the child for the sum of N800,000.

DSP Bright Edafe, the Police Public Relations Officer for Delta State Command, confirmed the incident, stating that the child has been safely reunited with the mother. The suspects remain in custody as the investigation continues.

In a separate incident on June 12, 2023, at 08:00 hours, the Anti-Crime Patrol team from 'A' Division, Warri, observed a tricycle with registration number BUR 240 VC. It was carrying two male occupants and approaching their direction while they were conducting a visibility patrol near the African Church, behind Daudu Police post.

The Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) explained that during a routine search, the team intercepted a tricycle. However, the two individuals on the tricycle quickly fled from the scene, evading capture as the team pursued them.

Upon conducting a comprehensive search of the abandoned tricycle, law enforcement discovered a homemade short-sized pistol.

The police spokesperson mentioned that the recovered items are currently in police possession, while an ongoing manhunt is underway to apprehend the fleeing suspects.

Meanwhile, Commissioner of Police Abass has appealed for the continuous support of the public in providing valuable, timely, and reliable information to aid in the fight against crime. He reassured that the identities of informants will be handled with the utmost confidentiality.
