The reasons I contemplated quitting football at 21 - Victor Boniface

Bayer Leverkusen forward Victor Boniface revealed that he contemplated quitting football at the age of 21. This decision arose after sustaining an injury merely two weeks after signing with Norwegian club FK Bodø/Glimt in 2019.

The 23-year-old characterized his time in Norway as "chaotic," emphasizing that he encountered more negative experiences than positive ones. In a recent episode of Mikel Obi’s podcast, Boniface expressed his dissatisfaction with his footballing journey in Norway, stating, "I spent about three years in Norway. We won the league twice, came second one time. But football-wise, it was chaotic for me. It was really bad for me. I think I have more bad stories than good stories there.”

"But that's life, you know. I suffered an ACL injury just two weeks after signing in Norway. I came close to quitting football at the age of 21."

He also revealed in the interview that he initially played as a midfielder before making the move to Europe.

In a recent post on his social media account, Boniface expressed frustration about his recurring struggles with injuries, stating: "U20 Nations Cup got injured 7 days before Nations cup. Super Eagles got injured 6 days before Nations Cup. Na Only God Knows why."
