Iheanacho is prepared to play in AFCON 2023, states Peseiro
Coach Jose Peseiro affirms that Kelechi Iheanacho is now in excellent condition to participate in the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) with the Super Eagles in Cote d'Ivoire.
Peseiro made these remarks during an interview with reporters in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates, on Monday evening.
“Kelechi will be accompanying us to Cote d’Ivoire.
“He has successfully completed his treatment at Leicester City,” he mentioned.
According to Peseiro, Iheanacho will now rejoin the rest of the Super Eagles squad for the AFCON after successfully addressing a muscular injury.
Iheanacho, who had been unavailable due to injury, did not participate in the team's week-long training camp in Abu Dhabi.
The Leicester City striker opted to remain at his club for a complete recovery ahead of the AFCON, set to commence on Saturday in Abidjan, Côte d’Ivoire.
The Super Eagles, three-time champions, are scheduled to depart for Cote d’Ivoire on Wednesday for their participation in the 34th AFCON finals. Before their departure, they will attend a special dinner hosted by Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu in Lagos on Tuesday (today).
The month-long AFCON tournament kicks off on February 11, with the Super Eagles initiating their campaign against Equatorial Guinea at the Alassane Ouattara Stadium in Abidjan.
