Eagles descend to 42nd place in the latest FIFA world ranking

Nigeria has now been positioned at 42nd in the most recent FIFA world ranking released by the international football governing body. This update indicates a two-place drop from their October rating. The Super Eagles participated in two competitive matches in November, drawing their initial two 2026 World Cup qualifiers against Lesotho and Zimbabwe, both of which are ranked below them in the FIFA standings.

Among African teams, the Super Eagles are the sixth-best, trailing behind Morocco, Senegal, Tunisia, Algeria, and Egypt. In the 2026 World Cup African qualifying series, Nigeria's Group C rivals – South Africa, Benin, Zimbabwe, Rwanda, and Lesotho – hold rankings of 66th, 97th, 124th, 133rd, and 148th, respectively.

For the Africa Cup of Nations, Nigeria's group opponents, Cote d'Ivoire, Equatorial Guinea, and Guinea-Bissau, are positioned at 50th, 88th, and 103rd, respectively.

At the global level, Argentina maintains its status as the top-ranked team, followed by France, England, Belgium, Brazil, Netherlands, Portugal, Spain, Italy, and Croatia in that sequence.
