Benue State Government clarified that the residence torched by hoodlums in Gboko belonged to a relative of the late former governor Aper Aku, not the former governor himself.
The arsonists, who are yet to be identified, attacked the property on Monday, setting it ablaze. Fortunately, the police intervened, rescuing the occupants before the fire engulfed the entire premises.
Deborah Aku, daughter of the late governor, confirmed to journalists in Makurdi that six occupants were safely evacuated before the house was set on fire.
Olomon Lorpev, the Technical Advisor to Governor Hyacinth Alia on Media, Publicity, and Strategic Communication, clarified the ownership of the house in a statement, attributing it to Ityungu Aku, a relative of the former governor.
Governor Alia denounced the attack as "barbaric," emphasizing the government's condemnation of property destruction within the state. Lorpev reiterated that the targeted residence belonged to Mr. Ityungu Aku, located near the former Ter Gboko Akaahan Adi’s house in Mbayion.
