Three passengers of a commercial bus involved in an accident at Anthony-Oke, Oshodi in Lagos state were successfully rescued by the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority.
As per the statement, two female and one male passengers were saved from a severe collision between a Volkswagen T4 with license plate EPE 399 YC and a Homo Truck with license plate T-20174 LA. Taofiq further stated that an initial investigation indicated that the commercial Volkswagen T4 bus was crushed while in motion, attributed to brake failure on the part of the Homo truck driver.
He highlighted that the three individuals involved in the accident, including the truck driver, were saved by LASTMA official Abidoye Segun. Segun promptly reached out to the Mosafejo Police Station and representatives from the State Environmental Health Monitoring Unit to attend to the scene.
Bakare Oki, the acting General Manager of LASTMA, issued a warning to motorists, urging them to avoid reckless driving. He emphasized the importance of ensuring the proper maintenance of heavy-duty vehicles, particularly their braking systems, before embarking on any journey, whether within or outside the state.
Part of the statement reads, "Today, personnel from the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) successfully saved three passengers of a commercial bus engaged in a severe accident at Anthony–Oke, heading towards Oshodi, Lagos."
"The Director of the Public Affairs and Enlightenment Department at LASTMA, Mr. Adebayo Taofiq, confirmed in a press statement that three passengers (2 females & 1 male) were rescued from a severe accident involving a Volkswagen Commercial 'T4' bus (EPE 399 YC) and a 'Homo' Truck (T 20174 LA).
Preliminary investigation indicated that the 'Homo' Truck driver operated recklessly, resulting in the collision with the moving Commercial Volkswagen 'T4' bus due to brake failure.
Following the incident, Traffic Officer Abidoye Segun (Zebra 4), leading the rescue operation, promptly contacted Mosafejo Police Station and officials from the State Environmental Health Monitoring Unit (SEHMU) for assistance in rescuing the three accident victims, including the truck driver.
LASTMA's General Manager, Mr. Bakare Oki, who visited the accident scene, issued a warning to Tanker/Truck drivers against reckless driving. He emphasized the importance of ensuring heavy-duty vehicles, including the braking system, are in good condition before undertaking any journey within or outside the State.
While making this appeal, Bakare Oki also urged the public, especially motorists, to adhere to all traffic regulations for the safety of all road users during the Yuletide Season and beyond."
