Teachers in Dutse Disrupt Aptitude Test and Detain SUBEB Official

Numerous temporary J-Teach instructors employed by the Jigawa State government staged a peaceful protest, disrupting the aptitude test conducted by the State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB) for the hiring of 6,000 teachers.

The board's Chairman, Prof. Haruna Musa, reportedly narrowly escaped a life-threatening situation at one of the centers located in Federal University Dutse (FUD).

Candidates protested, alleging a scheme by certain officials to hijack the recruitment process, contrary to Governor Umar Namadi's directive for a transparent procedure.

Abbas Aujara, speaking on behalf of the discontented J-Teach candidates, highlighted that 4,500 of them were recruited two years ago, undergoing five different aptitude tests and three verification exercises in the process.

He expressed lament, saying, "We have dedicated two years as J-Teach staff, contributing to Jigawa's educational development with a minimal allowance."

"Last month, the governor instructed that we be treated as permanent teachers, and we underwent screening and documentation following the state's civil service rules."

"However, just last week, we received invitations for another aptitude test, and it's evident that numerous new faces, not affiliated with J-Teach, participated in the test."

He expressed suspicion, stating that subjecting them to additional tests alongside newcomers suggests a hidden agenda by the test organizers.

They were informed that the governor had endorsed new rules for teacher recruitment, transitioning from temporary engagement to ensure that only qualified individuals with genuine passion were considered for the positions.

"Regrettably, it seems that some individuals are attempting to undermine the governor's initiative to rejuvenate the education sector by hiring unqualified teachers for their personal gain. This is the reason we disrupted this aptitude test," he stated.

Aujara urged the governor to investigate the matter promptly and take necessary measures to prevent any sabotage of his 12-point agenda.

Welcoming the discontented J-Teach staff at the Government House in Dutse, the Chief of Staff, Mustapha Kiyawa, pledged to convey all their concerns to the governor and assured them of a fair resolution.
