Pastor murdered by herdsmen in Oyo; monarch calls for tranquility

A pastor, identified as Segun Adegboyega, was reportedly killed by individuals believed to be herdsmen on his farm in Ogbomoso, Oyo State. The incident occurred on Monday on the deceased’s farm situated at Gege village on Ogbomoso-Iseyin Road.

Further investigations have revealed that three individuals have been apprehended in connection with the killing, and they have been transferred to the custody of the Owode Police headquarters.

In the meantime, the Soun of Ogbomosoland, Oba Ghandi Olaoye, has urged the residents of the town to remain composed in the wake of the incident, assuring them that those accountable for the killing will face consequences.

Speaking to the community on Monday evening following the incident, Olaoye pledged to collaborate with law enforcement to ensure justice for the family of the deceased.

The monarch remarked, “As your father, I want to express that this is an unfortunate situation and entirely unwarranted. I have conveyed my sentiments to the Area Commander of Owode Police headquarters, who is present with me, and I want to assure you that justice will prevail. I also extend my sympathy to each one of you; may God continue to protect you and the entire Ogbomoso land.”

As of the time of reporting, attempts to obtain police responses proved unsuccessful, as the mobile number of the Police Public Relations Officer, Adewale Osifeso, was unreachable.

Herdsmen attacks have become widespread in Oyo.

Tension gripped Apalokun village in the Iwerele, Iwajowa Local Government Area of Oyo State, as numerous individuals were reportedly feared dead in a clash involving Operation Burst, Oodua Peoples Congress, Amotekun, Soludero, and a herdsmen group.

A contingent of herdsmen invaded a farm in the community with their cattle and began grazing, resulting in a heated dispute that led to the death of the farm owner. Additionally, crops valued at thousands of naira were damaged during the altercation.
