Man receives a 30-month jail sentence for menacing a salesgirl with a machete

In Dei-Dei, Abuja, a Grade 1 Area Court issued a 30-month prison term to a 28-year-old man, Sani Mohammed, on Friday for wielding a machete and threatening a salesgirl. The sentencing was delivered by Judge Malam Saminu Suleiman after Mohammed pleaded guilty to the charges. Suleiman imposed the sentence without the possibility of a fine, emphasizing its deterrent effect on others.

The individual, without a permanent residence, faced charges of criminal trespass, criminal conspiracy, intimidation, and an attempt to commit an offense.

Earlier, Mr. J.S Atinko, the Prosecution Counsel, informed the court that the convict, along with two others who are currently evading arrest, unlawfully entered the shop of Ikenna Oko located at A49 Hamza Abdullahi Road, Paze II, with the intent to steal.

He explained that they conspired and entered the shop, using a machete to intimidate the complainant's salesgirl in an attempt to steal her cell phone valued at N 150,000.

Atinko mentioned that the convict was apprehended after the salesgirl raised an alarm.

These actions, he noted, contravened the provisions of sections 348, 396, and 95 of the Penal Code.
