Lagos police detain driver for cramming children into car
Officers from the Rapid Response Squad, part of the Lagos State Police Command, have apprehended a driver who crammed 15 children into a Volkswagen Passat car.
The driver, hired to transport the children to a beach, confined four of them in the car's trunk, while the remaining 11 were squeezed together inside the vehicle.
This information was disclosed in a statement released on Friday by the State Public Relations Officer, SP Benjamin Hundeyin, from the command's headquarters in Ikeja.
The statement mentioned that concerned citizens reported the vehicle on the Lekki–Ikoyi Link Bridge around 8 p.m. on Sunday.
After intervening, the police observed that the driver, hired to take the children to a beach, had confined four of them in the car trunk, while 11 others were tightly packed inside the vehicle.
"Preliminary investigations indicated that one child had collapsed earlier in the day due to similar transportation conditions but had recovered after receiving medical attention.
Hundeyin announced that the command had reunited the children with their parents, while the "suspects would face charges in court."
The Public Relations Officer further relayed that the State Commissioner of Police, CP Adegoke Fayoade, praised the residents of Lagos State for their prompt reporting of suspicious individuals or incidents.
Additionally, the state police command rescued three toddlers reportedly confined in a room at Agodo-Egbe in the Ikotun area of the state.
The children, comprising a girl and two boys aged between two and four years old, had allegedly been locked inside for a period of time by Fatimo Ganiyu, purportedly their grandmother.
Upon becoming concerned about their absence, members of the community swiftly alerted the police on Wednesday.
