Iranian President and Putin Convene in Russia on Thursday
Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi is set to meet with Russia's Vladimir Putin on Thursday, as the two nations enhance their economic and military cooperation amidst Western sanctions. Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov confirmed the Russian-Iranian negotiations scheduled for December 7, addressing media reports about President Raisi's upcoming visit.
This visit follows Putin's trip to Iran in July last year and Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov's discussions in Tehran with regional counterparts in October. Amid Western accusations of Tehran supporting Russia's offensive in Ukraine through the supply of drones and weaponry, the meeting underscores the deepening ties between Iran and Russia.
Iran's official news agency, Irna, reported that President Raisi is heading to Moscow in response to an invitation from Putin. The one-day trip will prioritize bilateral matters, encompassing economic interactions, and delve into discussions on regional and international issues, with a particular focus on the situation in Gaza.
