FAAN closes KFC branch at MMIA

After a Passenger with Reduced Mobility (PRM) reported discriminatory treatment at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Lagos, via social media, the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) closed down the KFC outlet at the airport.

In accordance with the Lagos State Law on People with Special Needs, FAAN announced the closure of the KFC outlet at the airport, as stated by Mrs. Obiageli Orah, the Director of Public Affairs and Consumer Protection.

Orah specified that KFC management must apologize to the affected PRM and display a non-discrimination policy statement on their facility's doorpost before resuming operations. She cited Part C, section 55 of the Lagos State Law on People with Special Needs, emphasizing that depriving individuals of access based on disability is prohibited. Consequently, FAAN closed the KFC outlet at Murtala Muhammed International Airport, effective March 28, 2024, in compliance with this law.

Following a social media report by a Passenger with Reduced Mobility (PRM) regarding discriminatory treatment at Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Lagos, FAAN MD/CE, Mrs. Olubunmi Kuku, swiftly intervened. A management team, including Mrs. Obiageli Orah, Mr. Sunday Ayodele, Mrs. Ijeoma Nwosu-Igbo, and Mr. Kerri, was deployed to investigate. Based on their findings, FAAN has closed the KFC facility at MMA where the incident occurred. The KFC Management is required to issue a written apology to the affected PRM and display a non-discrimination policy statement at their MMIA facility before resuming operations.
