Edo & GIZ: Virtual Tech Training for 29 Visually Impaired
In collaboration with Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ), the Edo State government has provided digital technology training to empower and enhance employment opportunities for 29 visually impaired individuals.
During the graduation ceremony/summit themed "Fostering Digital Inclusion for Empowering Visually Impaired Persons in Employment," held on Thursday, Dr. Detlef Barth, Team Leader for Skills Development for Youth Employment, highlighted the summit's objective. The goal was to promote dialogue, share best practices, and formulate actionable plans to address the challenges faced by individuals with disabilities in accessing employment opportunities. This aligns with the theme of the International Day for Persons with Disability (IDPD) 2023 goals.
Dr. Barth mentioned that the training occurred from August 1st to 12th. The summit underscored the significance of collaboration among all stakeholders in creating an inclusive workplace.
Barth highlighted the necessity for reasonable adjustments in administrative rules, policies, and procedures to accommodate the needs of individuals with disabilities. He emphasized the importance of sensitizing and providing necessary information to employers, encouraging them to understand and embrace the value of a diverse workforce, as stipulated by the Nigerian Discrimination Against Persons with Disabilities (Prohibition) Act 2018.
