Yan Yuqing, the Chinese Consul-General in Lagos, has reiterated China's commitment to enhancing Nigeria's education system. During the launch of the free Chinese Online Classroom Project donated by the Ogun-Guangdong Free Trade Zone in Ogun State's Igbesa area, Yuqing emphasized the embassy's steadfast support for education in Nigeria, considering it a crucial foundation for the country's future development. She highlighted that the project, a collaboration with the Chinese Ministry of Education, marks a significant milestone in the cultural and economic partnership between Nigeria and China.

She emphasized that the project aligns with President Xi Jinping’s African development initiatives, aiming to cultivate proficiency in Chinese language, stimulate local economies, and promote mutual understanding.

Furthermore, she stated, "The online class aims to facilitate cultural exchange and enhance Nigeria-China relations by providing Mandarin Chinese learning opportunities to university students and other interested individuals. With a focus on technology transfer, career advancement, and global readiness, the project reflects OGFTZ's commitment to fostering a conducive environment for Nigerian and Chinese businesses."

Kevin Liu, Deputy General Manager of China-Africa Investment FZC, elaborated that the program's primary objective is to equip university undergraduates, broadening their prospects for skill acquisition and economic empowerment.

He also noted that beyond the academic setting, members of the local community interested in learning the Chinese language will also reap the benefits of the program.

"I extend my gratitude to the Chinese Consulate General, the Chinese Ministry of Education, and the Ogun State government for their collaborative efforts and support," he added.

"We have great confidence that the project will yield success, and our aspiration is for the entire African region, including Nigeria, to reap its benefits," he emphasized.

Madame Wang Jinhong, one of the project coordinators, highlighted that the project aims to narrow the divide between workers and experts by facilitating knowledge transfer through language learning. She mentioned that over 600 individuals have enrolled for the classes, both in person and online.

"We aim to enhance the technical proficiency of the workforce and localize our operations. Addressing the gap between theoretical knowledge and practical skills is our priority," she remarked.

In response, Ogun State's Commissioner of Education, Science, and Technology, Prof. Abayomi Arigbabu, assured the Chinese representatives of the government's full support.

Arigbabu expressed the government's readiness to incorporate Chinese language instruction into the curriculum to enhance knowledge, create better opportunities, and foster empowerment.

In January, the Chinese ambassador to Nigeria, Cui Jianchun, pledged to strengthen bilateral ties between the two countries. He highlighted the significance of the Year of the Dragon as a symbol of opportunity for China and Nigeria to deepen their relationship based on shared aspirations.

Among those present at the launch were Professor Li Yonghe, represented by Professor Wei Hongjiang, President of Yunnan Agricultural University; Mr. Deng Yu, CEO of Guangdong New South Overseas Investment Holdings Co., Ltd; Mr. Cai Guo, Vice President of China Glass Holdings Co., Ltd; and Mr. Song Bin, General Manager of Senda Group Nigeria Branch.
